It is a great privilege for me to be the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Irish government and to be in a position to have a dialogue about the excellent science, engineering and technology that is generated in Ireland.
We are living in a very exciting time for science as the pace of scientific discovery is moving faster than ever before. Scientific research and researchers not only work to understand the world but also want to change it. It is vital that we communicate and debate in an informed manner the excitement of science, the careers available in science, the economic and societal importance of science and the many discoveries which will arise from scientific advances to the public.
In my role as Chief Scientific Adviser I look forward to working with the Irish Government and all of those involved in the engineering and science eco-system across all sectors in Ireland and internationally to advance science as an important part of our culture and identity.
